Focus on Thailand

The Surin – Phuket

Amidst coconut palms and gently rolling slopes, The Surin Phuket elegantly punctuates the tropical landscape along the island's finest white sand beach at the tranquil Pansea Beach on the west coast of Phuket Island.  The 103 cottages and suites dotted along the beachfront and forested hillside were designed with understated elegance and feature a range of personal amenities and thoughtful touches. Spacious interiors allow for comfort, whether to sleep, lounge or be pampered. Relax on the outdoor terrace and soak in the sights and sounds of nature.

Ariysom Villa - Bangkok

Ariyasom Villa is a small luxury boutique hotel and spa with an authentic "Thai" feeling.  It has 24 guestrooms, restaurant (Na Aroon), Thai Spa (som Sen), small function room and meditation hall.  It is superbly located just off Sukhumvit Road and near to Bumrungrad Hospital.

Tamarind Village – Chiang Mai

Tamarind Village is a unique and charming boutique property that nestles in the heart of historic Chiang Mai. Surrounded by ancient temples and quaint shopping streets, it takes its name from the magnificent 200 year old tamarind tree that shelters the hotel in a shady embrace. Set around a series of garden courtyards, the 41 guest rooms and 5 suites reflect the rich ethnic diversity of northern Thailand by using fabrics and patterns drawn from various tribes of the region. Intimate, serene and relaxing, Tamarind Village is an oasis of calm and tranquility, the perfect base for exploring Chiang Mai and beyond.

Stopover: Cuba

Time to visit Cuba!

As you may have heard, tourism in Cuba is on the rise because of the influx of American visitors after Barack Obama relaxed the rules. Because of this, many people recommend going there sooner rather than later, before everything changes. Others say the increase in tourism could be a good thing; better places to stay and more facilities in general.

Ten days is a decent amount of time to see Cuba — suggested highlights would be Havana, Trinidad, Vinales, Cienfuegos, maybe Santa Clara and the Bay of Pigs.

There are a few ways to get there, with some routes offering the options of stopovers, or a multi-destination trip. Now that there are direct flights from the United States, some of these flights can be used in conjunction with tickets from New Zealand.

Unique Destinations

Myanmar – formerly known as Burma

Following the lifting of Western sanctions Myanmar has become a hot “now” destination for tourists offering the chance to see a country where the 21st-century world has barely intruded. It has some wondrous sights: a thousand temples scattered across the countryside in Bagan; the leg-rowers and floating gardens of Inle Lake, and majestic.
Ayeyarwady rivers. Here there is still a strong sense of the old Orient to experience.

Niue – The Rock of Polynesia

When you're the world's smallest independent nation you're allowed to be different - and Niue is very different. Don't expect the standard Pacific island experience: you won't be relaxing on palm-fringed beaches here, because there aren't any.
Leave your idleness at home and bring a sense of adventure instead.

Dubai for Families

There is so much to see and do! Starting with The Dubai Mall at the base of the Burj Khalifa – a trip to the Observation Deck unmissable, of course – followed by KidZania or SEGA Republic for Dad and the kids (depending on the children’s age) while Mum shops to her heart’s content! The Dubai Mall is also home to the impressive Dubai Aquarium and Dubai Ice Rink, so plenty to keep everyone amused. If the temperatures are soaring outside grab a taxi to the Mall of The Emirates’ Indoor Ski Slope for some fun in the snow. They also have toboggans for the little ones so the whole family can join in. And last but not least some water fun! Take the kids to Wild Wadi Waterpark next to the famous Burj Al Arab, with 30 rides and attractions for all age-groups. Alternatively the Aquaventure Waterpark at Atlantis on the Palm is newer and less crowded; here you will find the famous “The Leap of Faith” slide – not for the faint hearted (age-restrictions apply) – and Dolphin Experience and ‘Lost Chambers of Atlantis’ Aquarium. You can definitely spend a whole day at Atlantis with many food & drink outlets available.

Dubai Night-Life

If you are looking for night-life in Dubai and don’t want to stick to the hotel bars & restaurants (which are excellent), then head on down to watch the Dubai Fountain Shows from one of the many dining options around the Burj Khalifa Lake (next to The Dubai Mall). The shows start at 6 pm and are on every half an hour. The ideal spots are the restaurant balconies on the 1st floor, depending on the outdoor temperature when you are visiting Dubai. There you can sit and enjoy a meal whilst watching the entertainment.

Another great area for dining and entertainment is the Souk Madinat Jumeirah, near the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Burj Al Arab. It’s a modern Arabian souk with enchanted walkways and bridges across the waterways with 44 world-class restaurants, bars & lounges to choose from! When picking a restaurant do check whether they are dry or serve alcohol (not all of them do).
