US team American Magic will be the first Challenger to arrive in New Zealand. The boat is packed on a ship and expected to arrive in Auckland in June 2020. Sailors are hoping they will be able to follow if New Zealand eases the entry restrictions by that time. They are desperate to set up a base in Auckland as soon as possible.
With the two America’s Cup world series regattas in Italy and England recently cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the American Magic team believes their best course is to get to New Zealand sooner and start training in the local conditions.
